" In short, without planetary stewardship for water resilience, it is difficult to see how the world could eradicate poverty and hunger, two of the emerging Sustainable Development Goals to replace the UN Millennium Development Goals. To succeed with these twin objectives, of global water resilience and human development, will require a mind shift in water thinking, as well as a change in our views on ‘the environment’. The key is to shift away from yesterday's focus on how to reduce environmental impacts of human activities, towards reconnecting our societies with the biosphere and transition towards development within the safe and just operating space of a stable and resilient Earth system."
